Ali Akbar Velayati the top adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Friday that “the enemy seeks to spread strife in the (Middle East) region with the aim of diverting the attention away from the Palestinian issue.”
Velayati’s remarks were made while addressing the second International Union of Resistance Scholars today in Beirut.
“Resistance and not compromise remains the only path to freedom of Palestine” he said.
Some of the countries in the region were unashamedly normalizing relations with Israel he added.
The Iranian official hailed Hamas Movement’s position after refusing Israeli conditions on Palestinian reconciliation mainly disarming cutting its ties with Iran and recognizing Israel.
Hamas delegation’s visit to Iran was a practical response to Israeli terms according to his statements.
The second meeting of International Union of Resistance Scholars which had begun on Wednesday in Beirut came in coincidence with the anniversary of Balfour Declaration.
More than 200 scholars from over 80 countries had taken part in the two-day event in the Lebanese capital. The first international conference of resistance scholars was held in Lebanon in May 2016.
