Martyrdom of Jerusalem’s spokesman Mohammed Hamadah

Sunday 26-November-2023

The martyrdom of my close friend Mohammed Hamadah also known as Abu Ibrahim the spokesperson for Hamas in Jerusalem and a member of the Central Media Office of Hamas was announced on Saturday.

He was a devout Jerusalemite who had a deep connection to Al-Aqsa Mosque loving and cherishing it throughout his life.

He hailed from the city of Sur Baher in Occupied Jerusalem and he was arrested due to his affiliation with Al-Qassam Brigades the armed wing of Hamas after carrying out operations that targeted Israeli soldiers.

He was sentenced to 35 years in prison on charges of carrying out armed operations and planning the assassination of Ehud Olmert the former Prime Minister of the enemy who was also the mayor of Jerusalem which did not materialize.

He spent years in prison until the Shalit deal on the exchange of prisoners was implemented and he was released against the will of the enemy and deported to Gaza. I met him there on the streets of the magnificent city of Gaza and our relationship grew stronger as we continued to meet and benefit from each other. I visited his house and he visited mine. We had many conversations with a group of honorable brothers.

He was nicknamed Abu Basir influenced by the noble companion Abu Basir. He was truly exceptional in his tranquility strength and jihadic proficiency. He was a devoted worshipper reciting the Quran melodiously.

His gentle voice provided comfort and he always prayed “O Allah grant me martyrdom without delay.” At that time we did not know O Abu Basir that your martyrdom would be precious great and stunning in a decisive battle.

He was appointed as the spokesman for Hamas in Jerusalem by Abu Ibrahim Al-Sinwar in Gaza shortly before the Sword of Jerusalem battle. Sinwar told him that the voice of Jerusalem must remain loud and he was that voice.

It is worth noting that Abu Basir Mohammed Hamadah was detained for a long time along with Sinwar and they formed a brotherly bond in prison. Sinwar admired him greatly and loved him very much. There was not a single session without discussing the character of Sinwar and the details of their arrest and the stories that brought them together.

He married the daughter of the late Dr. Walid Al-Amoudi and this provides an opportunity to shed light on Sheikh Abu Khaled Al-Amoudi. He is the preacher of our mosque and we learned from him and his profound lessons. I admired his interpretation of the verses of the holy Quran and his firm stances. He was one of the scholars of interpretation in Gaza and a professor of Islamic principles at the Islamic University. He was martyred in this fateful battle a few weeks ago when he was targeted may Allah have mercy on him. I knew how much Hamadah respected and loved his father-in-law. I sent him a message of condolence and I found him solid and proud saying that we are all on this path. I took inspiration from him gaining some meanings of strength and steadfastness in the face of bombardment and destruction.

Mohammed Hamadah was a very calm person an avid reader and a distinguished media figure. His analyses and understanding of the enemy were profound. Before becoming the spokesman for Hamas he was relied upon by Al-Aqsa TV as a political analyst on enemy affairs. He was proficient in Hebrew both in reading and writing. Overall his assessments were accurate and reliable. His intellectual sessions were deep and pleasant and at the same time he was known for his sense of humor and jokes that increased our attachment.

Today Mohammed Hamadah dies as a martyr after a long history of patience and dedication. He was involved in armed jihad with the Qassam cells endured arrests and deportations engaged in intellectual and media jihad and served as the Hamas spokesman for Jerusalem. He met his final fate as great men do as a martyr. In a series of Israeli F-35 bombing raids Hamadah was martyred along with a number of his friends.
