The Hamas Movement has strongly denounced the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) for kidnaping director of Al-Shifa Hospital Mohamed Abu Salmiya and other doctors during their evacuation to southern Gaza.
“Their detention is a despicable and abominable act that only comes from people who do not have any shred of humanity and morals” Hamas said in a statement on Thursday.
“In addition it is a crime and a flagrant violation of international conventions that stipulate that medical personnel must not be harmed at all times including during wartime” Hamas added.
The Movement called on the Red Cross and the World Health Organization (WHO) — both of them were in contact with Dr. Mohamed Abu Salmiya to help him evacuate the patients and wounded civilians who remained at the Israeli-besieged hospital — to pressure the Israeli army to secure his release along with other doctors.
For its part Gaza’s ministry of health said it wants an explanation from the World Health Organization (WHO) as Dr. Abu Salmiya and medics were traveling in a WHO convoy with patients when they were stopped and detained by Israeli forces.
