The Hamas Movement praised the crowds that flocked to Al-Aqsa Mosque on the first Friday of the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement on Friday, Hamas said, “We in the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) praise and highly appreciate the massive crowds that responded to the call to attend the first Friday of the blessed month of Ramadan in Al-Aqsa Mosque and who broke the siege that has been imposed on the first qibla for Muslims and the third of the two Holy Mosques for months.”

The Movement affirmed, “These massive crowds who managed to break the siege and perform Friday and Tarawih prayers in defiance of the Israeli ban and restrictions confirm once again that our Palestinian people in the West Bank, Jerusalem, and 1948 Occupied Palestine, constitute our first frontline in the face of the Zionist enemy’s plans to desecrate and divide the holy site.”

Hamas called on the masses of the Palestinian people to frequent Al-Aqsa Mosque during the holy month and to confront all attempts by the Israeli occupation police and settlers to impose a fait accompli on its land.

Earlier on Friday, tens of thousands were able to reach Al-Aqsa Mosque despite the Israeli restrictions and the siege imposed on the city of Jerusalem and its old town, with Israeli occupation police deployed extensively in the Old City and at the gates of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The Islamic Endowments Department in Occupied Jerusalem stated that 80,000 worshipers performed the first Friday prayer in the month of Ramadan and about 90,000 worshipers performed the evening and Tarawih prayers in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.
