After losing half his weight in six months in Israeli custody, prisoner Imad Jadallah was released on Thursday from Israeli jails, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS).

The PPS explained in a statement on Friday that prisoner Jadallah, from Dura city in Al-Khalil, was arrested on October 19, and was released only when he lost half his weight in Israeli jails, as a result of the starvation policy pursued against Palestinian prisoners.

Photos, circulated over social medica platforms, of the freed detainee Jadallah, comparing his body before his arrest and after his release, showed the remarkable change on his body, as he appeared very thin due to severe malnutrition.

The PPS pointed out that in addition to torture and abuse, the starvation policy is one of the most dangerous policies imposed by Israeli occupation forces after October 7, 2023, on Palestinian prisoners, affecting all prisoners, regardless of gender or age, and causing them health problems, mainly in the digestive system.

The Society confirmed that all prisoners suffer from weight loss, as photos of the released prisoners revealed sharp weight loss for many of them, as a result of the Israeli tightened measures after October 7.

These measures included closing the prisoners’ cantina, confiscating prisoners’ food supplies, reducing their meals, and serving them food of poor quality, which affected their health, especially among the sick.

All of these policies and procedures have been systematically adopted and used by Israeli prison administrations against Palestinian prisoners for many decades. However, they have extremely escalated since October 7.
