Ministry slams Israeli assault on school for Palestinian orphans

Monday 17-October-2016

The Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education slammed on Monday the incessant Israeli break-ins into a secondary school for Palestinian orphans in Occupied Jerusalem.
The Ministry said in a statement that the frequent Israeli assaults on the school herald a serious escalation against the educational process in Occupied Jerusalem and the occupied Palestinian territories.
The ministry further spoke up against the interrogation and detention of the Director of the Jerusalem Education Office along with the abduction of several school children.
The ministry called on all human rights organizations and media institutions to urgently intervene and work on ceasing such Israeli assaults.
It denounced the assaults as flagrant violations of international laws and of Palestinians’ right to education.
Ten Palestinian pupils from the orphanage school in Occupied Jerusalem were detained by the occupation soldiers after they chased them down in the Old City on claims that they hurled stones and empty bottles at Israeli soldiers.
The Israeli police said the ten captives are Palestinian minors who have been involved in stone attacks against Israeli soldiers stationed near the al-Aqsa Mosque.
The IOF subjected the school children and the headmaster Muhammad al-Atrash to intensive questioning.
The Israeli authorities slapped a 45-day ban from the Old City on al-Atrash before setting him free.
The incident is the fourth such attack in a week.
